I’m a lecturer and a veterinary surgeon, based near York, North Yorkshire, an ideal base for working in the Yorkshire Wolds, Moors and Dales. Photography is a recent hobby, but I’ve always been passionate about wildlife and I spend much of my free time in the countryside watching wild animals and birds, so wildlife photography was a natural progression. I find that this love of nature inspires me to want to capture the moments that I’ve been fortunate enough to witness. I aim to show, as well as I can, the sense of wonder I experience when encountering wildlife, as well as the character and beauty of the animal.
Each photo I take tells a story of a moment that I’ve been privileged enough to experience and I love being able to share the beauty and excitement of these wildlife encounters with others.
After reaching the shortlist for several wildlife photography competitions, in 2011 I was delighted to win the British wildlife category of the Outdoor Photographer of the year competition with my photo of a Mountain hare (above).
One of my photos featured in the Scottish Nature Photography awards 2012 Portfolio yearbook, and in 2017 my photo of a long-eared owl in woodland was shortlisted in the British Wildlife Photography Awards (below)
In 2015 I was awarded my LRPS (Licentiate Distinction from the Royal Photographic Society) and CPAGB (Credit award from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain).
