I love playing with the use of light in my photos – finding ways to photograph animals or birds in shafts of light to create chiaroscuro images, creating high key images, or low key images, or images with sparkling light creating bokeh. The use of light can help say something about the character or habitat of the animal – low key images where a concealed hare is rim-lit at dusk or dawn, high key images showing the aerial balletic flight of the tern, the sparkling light of the sun on the sea early morning behind the seabird colonies on the cliffs, or pools of light through the trees spotlighting a chiaroscuro image of a squirrel foraging on the woodland floor.
